My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.
The Platypus Collective was hatched during one of my wanderlust journeys. I've always had a knack for discovering specially crafted, quirky, unique and always stylish treasures from local artisans.
During this particular travel in a third-world country, I came across some beautifully crafted items and thought about how much they would be loved back home. I wished there was a way for the artist to share their work with the world. For the rest of my trip, I couldn't get it out of my mind and the seeds of an idea began to bloom.
In my younger days I was hired for my keen eye, as a shopper for a vintage shop to source those unique finds that hide amongst the thrift store racks.
Nowadays, I frequent artisan craft events, always searching for something peculiar; something uncommon; something extraordinary and luxurious. You know those pieces, you see them too - the ones that stand out from the rest and make you catch your breath.
Over the years, as my personal collection has grown, I've been fortunate to get to know many of the designers and gain first glimpse access to their newest collections.
Coming from a family of artists, I realized that the challenge for designers is, while they are so fantastic and consumed with what they do, they often don't have the time, skills or desire for the selling piece of the puzzle. And the selling of their crafts are their livelihoods! I also believe it's unfair to keep such talent hidden within just one city!
Platypus Collective was created to bring you and designers from around the world, together at last. Now, these talented designers are able focus on what they do best, and you are able to find a truly unique statement piece - for yourself or as a gift for a loved one (or both!).
All of our artisans are carefully chosen to ensure the highest standards of quality and ethical treatment and care for other people, animals and the planet. And of course we believe in doing our part to give back as well. 1% of all profit is donated to support eco-friendly, third-world farmers, entrepreneurs and education systems through Kiva.
If you have any questions about anything, please contact us, we're always happy to hear from you and help anyway we can.
Welcome to the Platypus Collective!
